A North Carolina State Law requires anyone who is enrolled in a North Carolina School to have certain immunizations prior to entry into School. Documentation of one dose of the Meningococcal vaccine has been required for individuals entering the seventh grade since 2015. Effective starting with the 20/21 school year and there after, all students entering into the 12th grade will be required to have a booster dose of the Meningococcal Vaccine.
This is required by the 30th day of school but you are encouraged to get it as soon as possible as appointment times will fill up quickly after school starts. If proof of vaccine is not provided by the 30th day of school, the student will be excluded from school until that requirement is met.
The booster does not apply to individuals who enter the 12th grade before August 1, 2020. Also, if the first dose was administered on or after the 16th birthday, a booster dose is not required. More information can be found on the NC Immunization Branch’s website. New resources will be shared as they are available from the Immunization Branch.
For all those students needing immunizations to meet state requirements for entry into public schools,You can walk in to the Duplin County Health Department for immunizations daily from 8-11:30 am and 1-4 pm with no appointment needed.
If you are not sure if your child needs immunizations, please contact your school nurse at (910) 298-3718 for guidance.
