"Over the years, Duplin County Schools (DCS) has created a very unique and welcoming environment for students. At East Duplin, My children have always felt very comfortable and the teachers, counselors, administrators, and coaches have been very positive and encouraging to them. My children have been nothing but blessed being in the DCS system. My daughter is currently working with K-2 students which will prepare her for her future line of work. She has also been able to participate in many clubs and activities at East Duplin. DCS has always given my children opportunities for growth in the path they desire and I have enjoyed watching my child flourish in the path she loves.  I can’t wait to see the wonderful opportunities that lie ahead for her and the other students in the DCS system."

Greg Jenkins, East Duplin's softball coach, has been inducted into the North Carolina Softball Coach's Association Hall of Fame. Despite his numerous victories, Jenkins emphasizes that his true passion lies in mentoring his players and helping them grow into responsible and successful adults.

Jenkins attributes his coaching philosophy to the late Jerry Hunter, who inspired him to focus on character development and community representation. This approach, he noted, is shared by the entire East Duplin coaching staff.

In his 23-year tenure, Jenkins has accumulated a record of 349-162, establishing East Duplin as a dominant force in the area. The Panthers have consistently contended for conference championships and regularly qualified for the NCHSAA playoffs. Jenkins led the team to a state runner-up finish in 2003 and celebrated his 300th career win in 2021.

Jenkins’s induction into the Hall of Fame came as a surprise during the annual N.C. Softball Coaches Association clinic in Greensboro. “I had no idea,” he recounted. “I didn’t know until they started reading out the bio and I was like ‘That sounds like stuff I’ve done. That’s me.’ They got me by surprise. It was a good surprise.”

Jenkins remains humble about his achievements. “This means a lot. I was honored and humbled they thought of me for this award,” he said. “But I just do what I feel is right and what needs to be done.”

Congratulations, Coach Jenkins!

Awards Day at East Duplin High School was a celebration of student and staff achievements.  One highlight of the event was the announcement of the Teacher of the Year award, which is voted on by the faculty and staff of the school. This year the award went to Mrs. Katlyn Kennedy.

Mrs. Kennedy has been teaching at East Duplin since 2015 after graduating from Campbell University. She is a native to Duplin County and an alumnus of East Duplin. During her time here, she has also been active in athletics where she served as the cheer coach until having her son last year. Mrs. Kennedy currently teaches English and we are so glad to have her on staff. Congratulations on this prestigious award, Mrs. Kennedy!
